How the Refrigerator Works

In this day and age, the refrigerator has become a primary need. In the past, this refrigerator was a luxury necessity. Not everyone can have a refrigerator in his house. In fact, a thermos of ice is also a luxury item. 

But now, people are getting better at their economic level so that a refrigerator or refrigerator has become a primary, primary need. Therefore, it is very important for everyone to know how the refrigerator works. Thus, the community can deal with problems that arise in their refrigerator.

As in general, when we have an item, at least we really have to know how it works. Without knowing this, the existence of goods means nothing to us. We cannot operationalize the item. 

And, if we have a refrigerator, then we must know how the refrigerator works. Our knowledge of this aspect will make it easier for us to carry out maintenance and so on. This is because basically how to work is a basic aspect of any tool or item.

For a refrigerator, what we need to know is the basic understanding. The basic understanding of the refrigerator is a household appliance that has the function of cooling food in a closed room that is isolated from the outside of the cupboard. 

Refrigeration of food in this room is to keep the condition of the food or drink in the room for longer. And, indeed, the way a refrigerator works is to cool a closed cupboard in such a way that the food and drinks stored in it can be more durable.

To know clearly how the refrigerator works, first we know the main parts of the refrigerator and their functions. These parts are components that cause the cooling process to occur. We can mention sequentially, compressor, condenser, filter, evaporator, thermostat, heater, fan motor, overload motor protector, refrigerant or refrigerant. 

Next, we describe one by one the tools and their functions.

• Compressor

In the refrigerator working system, the compressor is a part that plays a very important and decisive role for the functioning of the refrigerator. And, this role is so important that we can think of the compressor as the heart in our body.

If the heart functions to pump blood throughout the body and receive blood flow from all over the body to be cleaned in the lungs and then pumped again throughout the body. The compressor functions to pump refrigerant throughout the refrigerator. By pumping the refrigerant, the entire refrigerator cools.

• Condenser

This tool has a function to store heat which is used to change the gaseous state of the refrigerant into a liquid state. This change of state can be carried out at high temperature and pressure. 

So that the condenser does not experience a high heat increase, it needs cooling. For this cooling, we can use various cooling media. But for now, the most widely used is the air-cooled condenser.

This air-cooled condenser is used for small and medium-sized refrigerators. And, the use of this type of condenser in small and medium refrigerators is due to its simple shape and does not require complicated and special maintenance. This condenser will be warm when the refrigerator is running. To prove it, we can hold the condenser.

• Filter

After the refrigerant flows to all parts of the refrigerator through the channels, of course this circulation will bring the dirt inside. This dirt is very dangerous for the system because it can make a deadlock. 

If the drain is clogged, then the performance of the refrigerator will be completely disrupted. The flow of coolant is blocked because the material is circulated in a capillary tube, which is a small pipe that can withstand high pressure.

Filtering the dirt is done by this filter. The refrigerant that is channeled into the next process will also be cleaner so that it can allow maximum heat absorption. Thus, the temperature in the refrigerator room is getting lower or colder.

• Evaporator

If the condenser functions to store heat, the evaporator serves to absorb heat from objects that are put in the refrigerator. This evaporator will vaporize the existing cooling material so that the hot air is resisted and then cools it.

In accordance with its use, the evaporator is a tool for evaporating the refrigerant so that it can be more effective at absorbing object heat. The absorption is carried out by evaporation of the refrigerant. Because this tool is in a room that is always humid and watery, the materials used are rust-resistant materials, such as copper and aluminum.

• Thermostat

This tool is also called temperature control or cool control, which is a tool to adjust the compressor work automatically. Automatic work it does based on temperature intervals in each part of the refrigerator. 

The thermostat in the refrigerator works as an automatic switch based on temperature or temperature. If the evaporator temperature matches the temperature of this automatic switch, then the electricity to the compressor will automatically be cut off.

• Heater

This tool is used for heating. The purpose of this tool is to melt the ice that arises during the room cooling process. The ice in the evaporator must be thawed so as not to interfere with its performance. 

In addition, the heater also prevents the accumulation of ice on the ice shelf or fruit storage rack at the bottom of the ice shelf.

• Fan motor

As in general, the fan or fan serves to blow air. For a refrigerator, we will find that there are two types of fans, namely:

1. Evaporator motor fan

This fan serves to blow cold air from the evaporator to all parts of the refrigerator, in this case the shelf, for example ice rack, vegetable rack, and fruit rack.

2. Fan motor condenser

This fan serves to suck and or push air through the condenser and compressor. This fan is placed at the bottom of the refrigerator with a small condenser. This fan also serves to cool the compressor.

• Overload motor protector

This tool is a refrigerator safety that is attached to the compressor terminal. The work of this tool is similar to the work of a fuse, which is to disconnect and connect an electric current. 

With this tool, the refrigerator's electrical components can be protected from damage due to the current generated by the compressor exceeding its capacity.

• Coolant ( refrigerant)

This material serves to cool the part - the passage through which it circulates. In order for this refrigerant to function effectively, it must be a substance that is easily changed and circulated. This substance is obtained from the gaseous state d is converted into a liquid. The characteristics of refrigerants are very different for each type.

The workings of a refrigerator or refrigerator begins at the compressor section. This tool serves as the heart and drive of the refrigerator system.

When electricity is supplied, the compressor motor will rotate so that it puts pressure on the refrigerant.

The compressed gas refrigerant will become pressurized and high-temperature gas. Under these conditions, the refrigerant can flow into the capacitor.

When the refrigerant has reached the condensation point, namely the condensation point, the gas will condense and turn into a liquid again. The high pressure refrigerant will move towards the capillary tube. As a result, the refrigerant will rise to the evaporator.

When the refrigerant is in the evaporator, it will evaporate so that it returns to gas with low pressure and temperature. This condition causes the air to be between the low temperature evaporator so that it condenses and becomes liquid or melts.

If this condition is carried out continuously and repeatedly, then the air in the evaporator room will freeze. Not only air but also liquid or water that is placed in the evaporator chamber.

After that, the process starts again.
