How to Overcome Laptop Bluetooth that Doesn't Work on Windows 7

We must be annoyed if the laptop's bluetooth suddenly doesn't work when we want to use it.

The following article contains how to solve a broken bluetooth. But before that, we first find out what bluetooth is.

Bluetooth is an industry specification for wireless Personal Area Networks (PANs for short).

Bluetooth connects and can be used to exchange information between devices. The specifications of this Bluetooth device were developed and distributed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.

Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency band but with a limited range. This is the weakness of this technology, namely the limited distance and low data transfer capabilities.

History of the Discovery of Bluetooth

The beginning of the presence of Bluetooth is as a wireless communication technology (without cables) that operates in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) frequency band by using a frequency hopping transceiver that can provide data communication services as well.

Voice in real-time between bluetooth hosts with a distance of about 10 meters. Bluetooth in the form of a card that uses the IEEE 802.11 standard radio frequency provides a short service distance and lower data transfer strength than a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) card.

The formation of Bluetooth was promoted by 5 giant companies such as Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba which formed a Special Interest Group (SIG) which released this project.

In July 1999 the bluetooth service specification document version 1.0 was introduced to the public.

In December of the same year, the production of advanced Bluetooth specification documents, namely version 2.0, was resumed with the addition of 4 new promoters namely 3Com, Lucent Technologies, Microsoft and Motorola.

Currently, more than 1800 companies engaged in various fields are incorporated in a consortium that adopts this bluetooth technology.

Although the Bluetooth SIG technology standard is currently controlled by the promoter group, it is hoped that it will become an IEEE (802.15) standard.

The Origin of the Bluetooth Name and Symbol

The term "bluetooth" comes from the name of the late tenth century king, Harald Blatand of England. He is also dubbed as Harald Bluetooth because his teeth have a dark color.

He was a Danish king who had succeeded in uniting previously warring tribes, including tribes from what is now Norway and Sweden.

Even the area where this technology was found, namely Scania in Sweden, is also included in its territory.

King Harald Blatand's ability as a unifier is also similar to today's bluetooth technology which can connect various kinds of equipment such as personal computers (PCs) and cell phones.

Meanwhile, the bluetooth logo stems from the union of two German letters which are analogous to the letters H and B, which is a combination of the abbreviations of the king's name, Harald Bluetooth.

Tips for Overcoming Laptop Bluetooth Not Working on Windows 7

Sometimes a special Windows service such as Bluetooth Support Service does not work or is disabled. This can be caused by human error, virus or malware attack, or bluetooth that is experiencing fatigue due to overuse.

It could also be because it is automatically disabled by Windows itself due to rarely being used but still alive.

This action is seen by Windows as something that can reduce the effectiveness of the performance of a computer or laptop.

Therefore, it is recommended that you go to the direct location of this service and then reactivate it.

The trick is as follows:

First, open the Start menu on the computer and then type directly in the start menu services on the Windows 7 operating system or services.msc.

on the run feature of the Windows XP operating system. Click to open the services window.

After the services menu opens, you can look for the service menu list that says "bluetooth service". Check whether the bluetooth status is started or disabled.

If it says disabled or there is no writing at all, this is most likely what is causing your laptop's bluetooth not to work.

Next, double click or right-click on the words Bluetooth Service or Bluetooth Support Service then select Properties. The next step, press the Start menu.

Don't forget to also select Automatic in the Startup Type drop-down menu so that the bluetooth service on your laptop can be configured automatically.

After that, do the testing by sending your files using bluetooth. If it doesn't work too, try restarting your laptop or computer.

Overcoming a Disabled Laptop Bluetooth Due to a Driver

If the above method has been tried but your bluetooth feature is still not working, there is a possibility that the damage lies in the driver or maybe in your computer hardware. To solve this problem, there are several steps you can try, which are as follows:

You can download and install the bluetooth driver or also known as the latest version of the bluetooth stack for your laptop. You can check it on the laptop company's web page.

For example, the brand of laptop you are using is ASUS, so you can look for the latest version of bluetooth at www.asus.com, and so on.

If your laptop has a built-in WLAN antenna along with a bluetooth antenna, check if the bluetooth switch antenna on your laptop is turned on.

If not, try pressing the FN key on the keyboard at the same time as the F8 key to activate it.

Try to check again whether your bluetooth card is still installed correctly or not. Or even your bluetooth is broken. If it is damaged, you can take it to a computer service center for repair.

Causes of Bluetooth Not Working

There are various reasons why bluetooth cannot perform its function, namely transferring data, including:

  • Either Bluetooth or both is off or not yet activated.
  • The computer's memory capacity is full.
  • Bluetooth is not working because the bluetooth device that is the full destination
  • One of the Bluetooth or both is faulty.
  • The distance between the two bluetooth is too far (more than 10 meters).
  • File transfer does not exist.
  • Wrong password.

Tips For Overcoming Disabled Bluetooth Problems

There are several things that must be considered so that sending files via bluetooth is smooth without a hitch, namely:

  • Make sure bluetooth is on, both bluetooth sending and receiving files.
  • Ensure that the receiving device has sufficient memory.
  • Also make sure your mobile phone bluetooth device list is not full.
  • Make sure the bluetooth is in good condition (not damaged).
  • Set the transfer distance (less than 10 meters).

For some people, bluetooth is important for moving small amounts of data.

Therefore, the things above may be able to overcome a damaged or malfunctioning laptop bluetooth. Hope it is useful.
