Environmentally Friendly Energy

Environmentally Friendly Energy

The diminishing source of energy from fossils makes scientists continue to concentrate on finding alternative energy. The effect of global warming also makes everyone start to think hard to find alternative energy that is environmentally friendly.

Environmentally friendly means that the alternative energy does not cause serious problems for the environment as caused by energy sourced from fossils.

Humans as living beings who always excrete waste as part of the metabolic process can be a source of environmentally friendly alternative energy raw materials.

Bio energy

Bio energy is a term used to describe or explain alternative energy that does not come from fossils. Bio energy comes from plants, animal waste, human waste, and garbage. The search for alternative energy sources is happening all over the world. India for example.

The rapid population growth is quite worrying for many parties. The government has started a campaign to use biogas (a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide obtained from the decomposition of organic matter) for cooking.

The Al-Hikmah Islamic Boarding School in Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia also uses biogas from human waste for cooking. The number of students which is 700 people plus the number of guests who visit to visit children or just want to know the process of making biogas, it still makes this pesantren feel that it lacks a source of human waste as raw material for biogas.

If biogas in the style of the Al-Hikmah pesantren is developed more seriously throughout Indonesia, it seems that with a population of millions, Indonesia will not lack the raw material for biogas production – if it is well organized.

If the Al-Hikmah Islamic Boarding School received the assistance of a biogas generator from Germany, it seems that Indonesian scientists might be able to build a similar machine but at a lower price. If only one village had one machine, the cost of the kitchen for each family in the village could be reduced.

Cow Manure and Garbage

Human waste can be a source of deadly disease if not handled properly. E-coli bacteria found in human feces can cause diarrhea. In addition, the smell it produces is very disturbing concentration and reduces appetite.

So utilizing the dirt for the benefit of mankind is a very bright idea. The methane gas produced by the sewage can be used as fuel for cooking or even to generate electricity.

In addition to human waste, cow dung has long been used by cattle farmers to be used as biogas. Utilization of cow dung in addition to making the human environment clean, the cows in the cage are also happy with a clean place. In addition to the two types of waste, waste has long been considered as a raw material for biogas.

Moreover, organic waste originating from agro-industrial factories is also increasing in Indonesia. For example, palm oil waste. With anaerobic technology, the waste and waste can be processed into bio energy.

Utilization of waste as a basic material for biogas can be a solution for handling waste in big cities. The accumulation of garbage in the middle of the city that reaches meters high that disturbs the view and traffic like what happened in Bandung may not happen again.

There is no need to expand the landfill because waste is utilized optimally and optimally.
